Qurban is an act of worship performed by muslims as a form of devotion to الله سبحانه وتعالى
Qurban involves the slaughter of certain animals with sincere intentions and following the procedures set out in the religion.
History of Qurban :
Prophet Ibrahim عليه السلام received an order through a dream from god to slaughter his son, Ismail عليه السلام and Ismail accepted the order willingly.
When prophet Ibrahim was about to slaughter Ismail, Allah replaced him with a sheep. this indicates that the test has been passed and their obedience is accepted by الله سبحانه وتعالى
This event is then enshrined in islamic law ordered to slaughter sacrificial animals every 10 Dzuhijjah ( Eid al-Adha ) as a from of obedience and gratitude to الله سبحانه وتعالى.
Purpose of qurban :
1. Get closer to الله سبحانه وتعالى
2. Follow the example of prophet Ibrahim عليه السلام
3. Express gratitude
4. Distribute and share sustenance
5. Increase social care
6.Increase the values of sincerity and sacrifice
Qurban requirements :
1. Islam
2. Baligh
3. Reasonable
4. Able
5. Done at a fixed time
Types of sacrificial animals :
– Sheep : 1 year old or at least 6 months old for whose who cannot find a 1 year old sheep
– Goat : 1 year old and in its 2 year
– Cow : 2 years old and in its 3 year
– Camel : 5 years old and in its 6 year
Aisyah reported that the Messenger of الله سبحانه وتعالى said : “There is no deed that the son of Adam does on Eid al-Adha that Allah loves more than slaughtering and animal. for it will come on the day of resurrection with its horns, feathers, and hooves. its blood will reach Allah before it drops to the ground. so make up your mind to do it.”
(Hadist Hasan, riwayat Tirmidzi : 1413 dan Ibn Majah : 3117)
Qurban is not just about slaughtering animals, but also slaughtering ego, pride, and disobedience so that our hearts are clean in getting closer to الله سبحانه وتعالى.
